Stop, Drop, and Roll

The triangle of Stop, Drop, and Roll is a simple yet lifesaving method for extinguishing a fire on a person’s clothing. This sequence is essential for preventing burns and reducing injury during emergencies.

  1. Stop: The first step is to stop immediately. Movement or running can fan the flames, intensifying the fire. Staying still minimizes oxygen feeding the fire and prevents further spread of flames.

  2. Drop: Next, drop to the ground. Lying down helps isolate the fire from the head and face, reducing the risk of inhaling smoke or flames. It also positions the body to begin extinguishing the fire effectively.

  3. Roll: Finally, roll back and forth on the ground, using pressure to smother the flames. This action cuts off the fire’s oxygen supply, extinguishing it and reducing burn severity.

Balancing stop, drop, and roll provides a quick, effective response to fire emergencies and can save lives.
